Will Jenkins knows all about getting hooked on music. For the Bay Area native, the gateway band was Van Halen, which sparked an enduring passion for the drum kit that’s taken him into jazz, rock, pop, country, funk, and various permutations thereof. He continues to perform with some of the region’s most creative musicians, while dedicating the rest of his time to introducing aspiring young drummers to the magic of the drum set. With an AA degree in drum performance from Hollywood’s highly regarded Musicians Institute and private studies with an array of world-class drummers including John Xepoleas, Dave Elitch (Mars Volta, M83, Miley Cyrus), Chris Coleman, Michael Iveson (Gotye) and David Garibaldi (Tower of Power), Jenkins provides rock solid fundamentals, but he’s equally concerned with nurturing a love of music that will last a lifetime. With his students, Will spends equal time on proper technique, reading, theory, and various conceptual exercises designed to inspire creativity on the drums and build a strong foundation. “First and foremost, my goal for my students is for them to fall in love with music and specifically the drums the same way that I have,” he says.
